Join Hudson Athletics Volleyball League (HAVL) at Hudson Sportsplex in Naperville for Friday recreational team volleyball.

Seven scheduled nights, November 2026-January 2027. Register separately for each day you wish to play.

Registration

Recreational (Rec / C) team registration only. The $380 fee covers one team with a roster of 6-10 adults, ages 18 and older. The captain pays, enters the team name and selects their age. Choose quantity 1 for one team. Team registrations are limited to 6 spots per session. Registration closes November 12, 2026.

Recreational play

Friendly rallies, a relaxed pace and a social night of 6v6 co-ed volleyball. No experience required. This registration is for recreational teams only; individual, intermediate and competitive registrations are not offered for these sessions.

Format and scoring

Each team plays one match per regular-season night, best of 3 sets, in a 45-minute match slot. Sets 1 and 2 are played to 21 (cap 25). If needed, set 3 is played to 15 (cap 17). Win by 2, subject to the cap; at the cap, a one-point margin wins. Every rally scores a point. The deciding set may be shortened to finish within the slot.

Rosters and substitutes

Every player must be 18 or older. A full six-player lineup must include at least 2 women. A team with 1 woman may play short with a maximum of 5 players. A legal team needs at least 4 players, including at least 1 woman. A team with no women cannot play. Substitutes must be on the roster and have signed the waiver. A player cannot play for two teams in the same division. Substitutions and late arrivals enter only on a side-out.

Late arrivals and forfeits

There is a 10-minute grace period after the scheduled start. A team that cannot field a legal lineup then forfeits the first set; if it still cannot field a legal lineup after 15 minutes, it forfeits the match.

HAVL house rules

Net height is 7 feet, 11 5/8 inches (2.43 m). Rotate clockwise when your team wins the serve. A full lineup has 3 front-row and 3 back-row players. Serves cannot be blocked or spiked. Players may not carry or guide the ball. A block does not count as one of the three team contacts. No touching the net; feet may not fully cross the center line. This league is self-officiated: teams call their own lines, touches and faults, and captains settle disagreements. Unsportsmanlike conduct can lead to a warning, ejection or removal without refund. HAVL house rules take precedence; otherwise, USA Volleyball indoor rules apply.

Standings and playoffs

Standings are based on matches won. Tiebreakers are head-to-head results, then set differential, then point differential. All teams qualify for playoffs and are seeded by regular-season record. The playoff bracket and match times will be announced based on session size.

Refunds and cancelled nights

Withdraw by November 12, 2026, for a full refund. After November 12, spots are non-refundable but transferable. Sessions run with at least 4 teams; if a session does not reach 4 teams, a full refund will be offered. A night cancelled by Hudson Sportsplex because of a facility closure or emergency will be made up at the end of the season or refunded pro rata.

Waiver, location and arrival

Every player, including substitutes, must complete the online waiver before participating. Select HAVL as your program. Hudson Sportsplex, 31W290 Schoger Dr, Naperville, IL 60564. Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled match. Bring non-marking indoor shoes and water.
