Hudson Athletics Volleyball League (HAVL)

Join Hudson Athletics Volleyball League (HAVL) for six regular-season Thursday nights plus a separate playoff night of 6v6 co-ed volleyball at Hudson Sportsplex in Naperville. Open to adults ages 18 and older. Sign up and pay as a full team or as an individual, then choose the division that fits your competition level.

Choose your division / competition level

• Recreational (Rec / C): New to league play or coming back after a break? Start here. Enjoy friendly rallies, a relaxed pace, and a fun, social night while learning positions and rotation. No experience required.

• Intermediate (B / BB): For players and teams who know the game and want real matches.

• Competitive (A / AA): Fast rallies, strong hitters, and no easy points.

Registration and pricing

• Recreational: $495 per team or $95 per individual.

• Intermediate: $495 per team or $95 per individual.

• Competitive: $645 per team or $120 per individual.

Team registration is paid by the captain and covers one team with a roster of 6–10 players. Team registrations are limited to 6 spots per division. Individual registration covers one player, with team placement managed separately. Select your registration type, division / competition level, and age. For team registration, the age field is for the captain; every rostered player must be 18 or older. Enter your team name when registering a team, or your own name when registering individually. Choose quantity 1 for one team or one individual registration.

Registration closes November 12, 2026.

Schedule

Regular season: Thursdays, 8:00–10:00 PM Central. Six regular-season nights: November 19; December 3, 10 and 17, 2026; January 7 and 14, 2027.

Playoffs: Thursday, January 21, 2027. The playoff evening may run until 10:30 PM Central, including a late slot from 9:45–10:30 PM.

No play on Thanksgiving (November 26), Christmas Eve (December 24), or New Year's Eve (December 31).

Team assignments, rosters and the full regular-season match schedule will be emailed and posted on this page by Monday, November 16, 2026.

Format

Each team plays one match per regular-season night, best of 3 sets. Sets 1 and 2 are played to 21 (cap 25). If needed, set 3 is played to 15 (cap 17). The first team to win two sets wins the match.

Matches are scheduled in 45-minute slots. Rally scoring applies: every rally scores a point. Win by 2, subject to the cap; at the cap, a one-point margin wins. The deciding set may be shortened when needed to finish within the allotted slot.

Leagues run with 4 or more teams per division. If a division has fewer than 4 teams by November 12, we will offer a merged level or a full refund.

Individual registration and team placement

Individual registrants are placed on a team by division. Teams that need players get first priority, and remaining registrants form free-agent teams by competition level. Team assignments and rosters will be emailed by Monday, November 16. If we cannot place you, you will receive a full refund.

Rosters, co-ed requirements and substitutes

• Rosters are 6–10 players. Every player must be 18 or older.

• A full six-player lineup must include at least 2 women. A team with only 1 woman may play short with a maximum of 5 players.

• A legal team requires at least 4 players, including at least 1 woman. A team with no women cannot play.

• Substitutes must be on your roster and must have signed the waiver before playing. A player cannot play for two teams in the same division.

• Substitutions take place only on a side-out. Late arrivals enter on the next side-out.

Late arrivals and forfeits

There is a 10-minute grace period after the scheduled start. A team that cannot field a legal lineup by then forfeits the first set. If it still cannot field a legal lineup after 15 minutes, it forfeits the match.

HAVL league rules

• Net height: 7 feet, 11 5/8 inches (2.43 m). Non-marking indoor shoes are required.

• Rotate clockwise when your team wins the serve (a side-out). A full six-player lineup has 3 front-row and 3 back-row players.

• Serves cannot be blocked or spiked.

• Players may not carry or guide the ball. A block does not count as one of the team's three contacts.

• No touching the net. Feet may not fully cross the center line.

• This league is self-officiated. Teams call their own lines, touches and faults in a spirit of fair play. Captains settle disagreements.

• Play fair and respect your opponents and staff. Unsportsmanlike conduct can lead to a warning, ejection from the match, or removal from the league without refund.

HAVL house rules take precedence. Otherwise, USA Volleyball indoor rules apply.

Standings and playoffs

Standings are based on matches won. Tiebreakers are head-to-head results, then set differential, then point differential.

Playoffs are January 21, 2027, and are included in your registration. All teams qualify and are seeded by regular-season record. The playoff bracket and match times will be announced later, based on division size.

Refunds, withdrawals and cancelled nights

Withdraw by November 12, 2026, for a full refund. If your division does not reach 4 teams, we will offer a merged level or a full refund. After November 12, spots are non-refundable but transferable.

A night cancelled by Hudson Sportsplex because of a facility closure or emergency will be made up at the end of the season or refunded pro rata.

Waiver, location and arrival

Every player, including substitutes, must complete the online waiver before participating. Select HAVL as your program on the form.
